Believe it or not, a Trump official has warned people from indulging in the FIFA World Cup 2018, all set to take place in June-July.
According to the official, football fans should “think twice” before even considering planning to visit Russia to watch the matches live. The reason? Due to the diplomatic crisis between the two countries i.e. Russia and the U.S.A.
What is astounding is the fact that British Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, has suggested that Putin will utilize this opportunity to exploit the event for Russia’s agenda. He compared how Hitler did the same with the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936.
Cold War tactic or not, one thing is for certain, the FIFA World Cup this year will be watched around the globe without fail. All eyes will be on Russia this time around, especially considering how USA failed to qualify for the finals, but England did. How? Well, consular teams were available 24/7 for English fans during the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil. However, this won’t be happening again, taking the current political climate into account, which was once again pointed by a senior from Trump’s administration.
No matter the political climate, one thing is for certain, people will watch the World Cup, even though they may not be able to make it to Russia. It is estimated that the number of people will far exceed previous numbers for viewership. If that is not all, the FIFA World Cup 2018 will be widely watched across platforms like Facebook, and even WhatsApp.
